Eleven-year-old 1998 New Mexico State Fair visitor sustained head and jaw injuries when the Cliff Hanger carnival ride when was riding failed allowing her to fall to the ground. A temporary employee had found a 4 inch bolt under the ride before the accident but no investigation to the source of the bolt or the safety of the ride was performed before Vanessa Atler was allowed onto the ride. Murphy Enterprises admitted liability for the girl's injuries.
