Case Number: Unknown

Date: 09/30/99

State: Wyoming

Details:

Truck Accident - Kelly R. Douglas was killed when the driver of a semi-trailer truck smashed into his vehicle. The driver, Allen E. Reeder, pled guilty to criminally negligent homicide by vehicle for Douglas's death. Reeder was sented to one year in the Uinta County, Wyoming jail. Reeder was hauling a large load of aluminum on an enclosed flat bed trailer when he rammed the back of the vehicle Kelly Douglas was driving. The collision occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on December 15, 1998. On that day, he was driving a State of Wyoming vehicle, warning traffic to avoid his maintenance crew on the road ahead of his vehicle. Kelly's vehicle carried a large flashing yellow warning arrow in the back, advising traffic to move to the left. Reeder failed to move over and struck the state truck, propelling it off the highway as it burst into flame. Douglas' estate received a structured settlement with a present cash value of $1 million.

Verdict Outcome:

Jury awarded plaintiffs estate a structured settlement valued at $1,000,000
