Deborah Brown, Administrator of the Estate of Shawna Ward, deceased sued the Vandalia Community Unit School District and Eugene Roger for the wrongful death. Shawna Ward was a 14 year old girl that was trapped beneath a school bus. Eugene Rogers drove the Bus that was involved in an accident on August 27, 2003. The bus off Burg Road and rolled down into a deep ravine. The school district and Rogers had admitted negligence. They agreed on the cost of medical services and burial expenses of $130,118.69.

Verdict Outcome:

verdict for $1 million including $75,000 for pain and suffering experienced by Shawna prior to her death and $800,000 for loss of society, love and companionship
