Details:
A Springfield family settles a lawsuit over the death of their child, who was killed while crossing a busy street in front of his school. Kerry and Aaron Bumgarner sued the City of Springfield, Greene County and the drivers of two cars for the death of their son, Eric, in September 2003. Eric, who was 12 at the time, was hit by a car as he tried to cross Battlefield Road in front of Carver Middle School. The $400,000 settlement includes payments from all the parties sued by the Bumgarners with the exception of the City of Springfield. According to the terms of the settlement, Greene County will pay the Bumgarners $100,000 as will the driver who hit Eric. A second driver who signaled Eric it was safe to cross the street on a green light will pay the family $200,000.
