Glen and Connie Strong sued E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. for negligence. Mr. And Mrs. Strong Claim that E.I. du Pont de Nemours and company released toxic chemicals into the air from its plant in Pass Christian, Mississippi. This manufactured plants produces titanium dioxide, a toothpaste ingredient. The plaintiffs claimed that the chemical titanium dioxide released by du Pont caused Glen Strong to developed an incurable cancer, in 1998. Du Pont denied that any chemicals released from its plant caused or contributed to Strong's illness.
The outcome was Glen and Connie Strong verdict for $15.5 million. An $1.5 million to Mrs. Strong for emotional distress caused by her husband's illness and $14 million in actual damages to Mr. Strong.
