In a highly controversial move, the United States government is thinking again about making radical changes to patent law. Many critics of the change say that it will ruin incentives for American inventors to create new technologies and ideas. They also believe that the decision will leave America with even fewer jobs.
The changes would reduce the price that a handful of big technology corporations have to pay for the use of patented technology, owned by others. This means that Congress basically wants to streamline the process of borrowing (or as some would say, stealing) ideas and inventions from other, smaller corporations or individuals.
The critics believe that the larger corporations are pleading for a legislated bailout for their illegal actions - infringement. Each year, over 93 cases of patent infringement are heard in United States courtrooms.
