For his first bit of legislation since he entered the presidency last week, President Obama will sign a law that will contradict decisions made by the Supreme Court, making it more difficult for women and minorities to sue for pay discrimination. The high court had said that an employee only had six months after the first unfair paycheck to protest and bring his or her case to court.
However, one woman who worked as a supervisor at a tire company found out rather belatedly that she was not being paid as well by her male counterparts. She received an anonymous tip in her mailbox and immediately began investigating. The high court wanted to throw her case out, because she had not made the discovery six months after her first paycheck, but Obama has said that this was an unfair expectation and overturned the ruling.
Many experts believe that a great deal of laws will change with a liberal now in the office. To keep abreast of these changes and to learn more about how they affect you, contact your lawyer today!
