New Attorney General Supports Shield Law to Protect Journalists

The new Obama administration has said that it will do things much differently than the previous administration. The most recent change that his political team has proposed is a new shield law to protect journalists and they will make it much easier to gain access to government documents.

The shield law will allow journalists to be safe from testifying in court against a secret source. This grants them a right, much like a doctor or a clergyman, taking confession has on the witness stand. Also, journalists and their notes will not be able to be subpoenaed for a court case.

More freedom to research into government matters will also increase the rights of the press. The Bush administration decided that sharing such information would be a threat to national security, however, Obama and his attorney general think that the openness could help repair the financial crisis that the country finds itself in.
