In Minnesota, Republican lawmakers are working to create what they call the “Voter Integrity Act of 2009.” If this bit of legislation were to go into action, it would require that all citizens show their ids before being allowed to vote.
The lawmakers say that IDs are required for just about any other major thing that you do in this country, so why not voting? They are concerned about the recent election, in which many voters actually went to the polls multiple times to cast their votes.
Those not in favor of the newly proposed law say that it will make the already complex process of voting even more difficult. They say that this law will disadvantage those who are uneducated, foreign or poor. However, the Republicans have cited cases in seven other states where this legislation has been successful.
