Obama Determined to Close Guantanamo

Though reports have come back from Cuba, saying that the Guantanamo Bay prison- held by the United States as a detainment facility for suspected terrorists, is being well-run, President Obama seems determined to close its doors nonetheless.

Its history of torture tactics and holding prisoners without trial for years at a time still leaves a bad taste in the American mouth. Obama wants to get rid of these feelings, and make a prison that is both safe and fair for the inmates who are held there and await their trials.

Many Republicans are trying to keep the strategic location open and available to the United States military, but other advisors say that by closing the detainment center, the U.S. opens up doors of communication with countries who were appalled by our use of torture.

Some human rights lawyers have said that the conditions at these prisons are worse, as guards try to get their “last kicks in” before Obama closes the facility down. For more information about the Guantanamo Bay case or to learn about human rights law, talk to one of your local lawyers today!
