Friday, the state of California struck down a proposed ban on the rental and sale of violent video games to minors. Many lawmakers thought that this move would have been entirely too restrictive, so instead, they have vowed to work on new ways of keeping violent video games out of the hands of children.
For example, a new labeling system has been proposed, which will be strict and give harsher ratings to excessively violent video games. Teachers and parents have long expressed concern over the usage of violent video games by their children. Though there has not been much research to prove it either way, many believe that the games foster a sense of violence in children who are unable to differentiate between virtual reality and reality.
The case will travel to the Supreme Court, on the back of California’s Attorney General, Jerry Brown. For more information about the results of this case, or to learn more about video game laws in your own state, talk to a lawyer today!
