Ms. Barbera is a former Adjunct Professor of Paralegal Studies at The New York Institute of Technology. Ms. Barbera is a liscensed instructor of Real Estate Brokers and Sales Courses. The areas of practice which Ms. Barbera handles are Divorce,Mediation, Family Court, Custody, Visitation, Support, Real Estate and Wills.
Born and raised on Long Island, Janine A. Barbera studied Business Marketing and minored in Journalism at Hofstra University after graduating from Brentwood Sonderling High School. After graduating with her JD from St. John's University, Ms. Barbera began her legal career as an intern with the Travelers Insurance Company doing personal injury defense. Feeling every attorney should be able to handle a real estate closing, Ms. Barbera took a job with a bank attorney in Nassau County and closed for such banks as Citibank, Dime; and Manufacturers Hanover. Secure with her knowledge in the field of real estate, litigation experience was her next desire. Expanding her knowledge to criminal appellate defense and general litigation, her new position led her throughout the courts of Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn as well as Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Broadening her areas of practice, Ms. Barbera eventually worked in-house for a union while starting her family. In January of 1996, Ms. Barbera opened her practice with partner James McElhone. Ms. Barbera is married and the mother of 4 children splitting her time between their east-end second home and their local residence where they enjoy chauffeuring their children to and from their multitude of activities. In her spare time, Ms. Barbera enjoys reading a good book and yoga.
Janine A. Barbera, Esq. has been in practice for over 20 years. Ms. Barbera was a bank attorney where she developed experience in all areas of Real Estate Law. Thereafter she entered into General Practice and concentrated her practice in Matrimonial Law, Family Law and Adoptions. Ms. Barbera has been an adjunct Professor of Paralegal Studies at New York Institute of Technology and is a licensed instructor of Real Estate Sales and Brokers Courses. Ms. Barbera is a member of the New York Bar Association, Suffolk County Bar Association, The Woman's Bar Association and the Divorce Mediation Association.
