The Heritage Law Center was founded by attorney Matthew Karr to provide Massachusetts residents with a personal, family-first approach to the law. Matthew focuses his practice on asset protection and estate planning (including wills and trusts), elder law and long-term care planning (Medicaid), MassHealth applications for long-term care (Medicaid applications), and MassHealth fair hearings (appeals on Medicaid denials). Matthew is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) as well as the Massachusetts Bar Association and Provisors.
Matthew has experience in both the public and private sectors, having previously worked at the international law firm of Brown Rudnick, LLP, a mid-sized estate planning law firm and with several state agencies including MassDevelopment, the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. Matthew has represented clients on a pro bono basis for various charitable organizations including the LawyerâÂÂs Clearinghouse and the Volunteer LawyerâÂÂs Project and has appeared before the Massachusetts Municipal, District and Superior Courts as wells as various housing and entitlement boards.
Attorney Karr regularly offers advice and guidance on issues pertaining to Massachusetts estate planning and elder law on his estate planning and MassHealth planning law blogs and through community seminars throughout eastern Massachusetts.
Matthew received his Juris Doctorate from Boston College School of Law, where he was co-chair of the Community Economic Development Group. He also holds a bachelorâÂÂs degree from Hofstra University, where he graduated cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa distinction. Matthew is licensed to practice in both the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Federal District Court of Massachusetts. He is also a licensed Massachusetts Real Estate Broker, a Notary Public and a certified LEED Green Associate of the US Green Building Council. A lifelong Massachusetts native, Matthew grew up on the North Shore and now resides in Boston with his wife.
