Gravelin v. Scrimpter; Shiawassee County Circuit Court
Practice Area: Auto Accident
Description: Mr. Batey represented the Plaintiff in this personal injury case where the Plaintiff, who was highly intoxicated with the blood alcohol level of 0.265, was walking along Corrina Rd. in Genesee County. Defendant contended that Plaintiff was in the road at the time of the accident. Following a tenacious cross-examination of the Defendant, at trial Mr. Batey was able to get the Defendant to admit that Plaintiff was in the median at the time of the accident and that the Defendant has veered off the roadway striking Plaintiff breaking her leg.
Outcome: The jury deliberated for 4 ½ hours before rendering a verdict in favor of Mr. Batey’s client who had made a full recovery for $125,000.00.
Cain v. ACME Building Materials
Practice Area: Personal Injury
Description: Mr. Batey represented the Plaintiff in this construction site accident case where the Plaintiff fell approximately 20 feet and was paralyzed from the waist down. After successfully arguing several pre-trial Motions regarding the applicability of OSHA Safety Standards
Outcome: Mr. Batey was able to secure a $1.8 million settlement for the Plaintiff.
Harris v. City of Detroit

Description: Mr. Batey represented the Plaintiff in this police brutality case in which his client was attacked by several city of Detroit police officers for playing his radio too loud during a drug raid at his neighbors home.
Outcome: Following extensive discovery, in which Mr. Batey deposed more than 15 police officers, he obtained a $400,000.00 settlement on behalf of his client.
Goodrich v. Ted's Sheds

Description: In this employment case Mr. Batey represented the Plaintiff who was a shareholder in a small company operated by his partner. Mr. Batey argued that his client was wrongfully terminated and forced out of the company.
Outcome: Following a two week trial in Fort Meyers, Florida the jury awarded Mr. Batey's client a $4.5 million verdict. Mr. Batey filed post trial motions for costs and attorney fees bringing the total judgment to over $5 million.
Doe v. Doe (Confidential Settlement)
Practice Area: Wrongful Termination
Description: In this age discrimination case Mr. Batey represented the President of the Detroit office of an international company. Mr. Batey's client was terminated after the Defendant made several comments about his "generation". Mr. Batey successfully argued that the termination was based on his client's age.
Outcome: After extensive discovery in which Mr. Batey took more than 10 depositions the case settled for $700,000.00.
