Robert W. Riley received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1970 from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana and immediately continued his education at the University of Louisvilles Brandeis School of Law. He graduated in 1973 and was admitted to practice in Kentucky the same year. He is also admitted to both Federal Districts in Kentucky and the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
Upon graduation from Brandeis, Mr. Riley worked as Assistant Attorney General in Frankfort until 1975 at which time he was appointed as General Counsel for the Cabinet for Human Resources until 1978. He then moved to private practice in Louisville with the firm of Handmaker, Weber & Meyer (subsequently Handmaker, Weber, Meyer & Rose) until 1983 when he joined the firm of Rice, Porter and Seiller. In 1986, Mr. Riley became a partner in Porter, Riley & Bardenwerper (subsequently Riley, Bardenwerper, McKinley & Schuhmann) which then merged with MacKenzie & Peden, PSC until 1995. Mr. Riley then became a solo practitioner for eight years until Riley & Associates, PLLC was formed in 2003.
Bob Riley lives in Louisville and has two sons, Caleb and Jonathan.
