On October 19, 1990, during his second year of law school, Robert was in a motorcycle accident. He sustained serious injuries and was permanently paralyzed from the chest down at the T6 level of the spinal cord. He returned to law school six months after his injury and earned his degree in 1993. After passing both the Louisiana and Texas bar exams, he accepted a position with Taylor and Cire in Houston, TX. He practiced law with Rob Taylor for seven years and then opened his own law practice in 2001, the Law Offices of J. Robert Davis, LLP. Robert volunteers much of his free time working with non-profit organizations. He is an accomplished mono skier and outdoorsman. He is a board member of the Adaptive Sports Center of Crested Butte Colorado which enables winter and summer outdoor adventure activities for all persons with adaptive needs. He is Vice Chairman of the board of the U.S. Handcycling Federation, the governing body of competitive handcycle racing and U.S. paralympics. He is also a board member of the Sun Down Sun Up Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to the social and medical concerns of persons with Downs Syndrome. Robert is a member of the American Association of Justice since he was a law student. The AAJ champions the cause of injured persons everywhere. Robert is also a member of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
