Maureen McGinnis, Member of Law Offices of Donald E. McGinnis, Jr., P.C.
Maureen M. McGinnis was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and is a graduate of Troy High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2000. She returned to Michigan to attend law school in East Lansing and received her Juris Doctor from Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law in May of 2003.
As a student, Maureen interned on a U.S. Senate campaign in Denver, with the Boulder District Attorney’s Office and the United States Department of Justice, Criminal Division, in Washington, D.C. She was also very active in Student Bar Association, as both an undergrad and law student.
Maureen was admitted to practice in November 2003 and started her career at the Law Offices of Donald E. McGinnis, Jr, P.C., a firm that was created by her father, Donald E. McGinnis, over 35 years ago and has been in the same location in Troy since it opened its doors. She specializes in family and criminal law, handling divorce, custody and post-judgment matters in family court as well as civil infractions, misdemeanor and felony criminal matters. She handles cases primarily in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne County.
Since she was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2003, Maureen has been active in bar associations on the national, state and local level. She has been a member of the Oakland County Bar Association since 2003 and is currently Chair of the New Lawyers Committee as well as a member of the Sixth Circuit Court Criminal Assignment Committee.
Maureen is currently the Chair Elect of the Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Michigan and has been representing the Oakland County district of this section since 2004. She is currently serving her first term as a member of the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners. She has also been active in the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and has previously held positions on the E-Communication Board and Subgrant Committee.
In November 2009, Maureen was elected to serve as a Councilmember on Troy City Council. She is currently serving a four year term that expires in November 2013. She is also very active in the community, working with groups such as Habitat for Humanity Oakland County, Family Legal Assistance Project and the Oakland County Youth Assistance Mentors Plus Program.
