Description: Mr. Rasha was charged along with two others with arson and residential burglary. The issue was identification. The victim/witness identified Mr. Rasha by name even though he had never met him before. Apparently someone had told him that Mr. Rasha was the culprit. The victim goes on to I.D. Mr. Rasha in a photo lineup. Their were other statements from the victim that contradicted his I.D. of Mr. Rasha.
Outcome: Jury trial. The jury did not believe that victim because we attacked his prior statments and contradictions. Not guilty all counts
People v. Jesus Castillo, 2008
Practice Area: Criminal Defense
Description: Mr. Castillo was charged with murder, attempted murder, and gang charges. Castillo was walking with a friend to get pizza after work when two gang members from Los Angeles picked a fight with him. During the fight Castillo stabbed one of the gang members and killed him. We argued self defense.
Outcome: Not guilty on the attempted murder and gang charges. Hung jury on the murder charge. We have to retry that charge.
