Attorney Patrick Donovan has more than 18 years of trial court experience litigating criminal and civil cases in the state and federal courts of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. As a former New Hampshire Department of Justice homicide prosecutor, and a private practitioner, Attorney Donovan has tried dozens of high profile, complex cases, as well as countless DWI/OUI, felony, misdemeanor and small business and commercial disputes. Patrick E. Donovan Bio

Attorney Patrick E. Donovan obtained his Bachelors of Arts degree in Government and Englinsh from Dartmouth College.  After receiving his undergraduate degree, he went on to work for the Governor John E. Sununu in Concord, New Hampshire before attending Boston College Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 1990. Patrick then successfully passed the Massachusetts Bar Exam and the New Hampshire Bar Exam on his first attempt and was sworn into the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Bars. Attorney Donovan was also admitted to practice before the United States Federal Courts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Prior to becoming a criminal defense lawyer, Patrick Donovan served as a law clerk for the New Hampshire Supreme Court, an trial attorney for the Boston firm of Goodwin Proctor, and then, as a an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New Hampshire where he served as a Senior Assistant in the Homicide Unit.  As a former state prosecutor, Patrick Donovan handled dozens of high profile criminal cases, which gave him extensive criminal law and trial experience.

Attorney Patrick Donovan also served on the Attorney General's DWI Task Force and in the White Collar Crime Unit where he prosecuted a number of complex security and fraud cases. His experience in law enforcement required Attorney Donovan to work closely with the New Hampshire State Police, Major Crimes Unit, the New Hampshire State Police Forensic Laboratory, various Federal Agencies, as well a number of local police departments.

Now, as a criminal defense attorney, Patrick uses his prior knowledge as a prosecutor to his clients’ advantage.  Attorney Patrick E. Donovan is committed to building the strongest case possible for each and every one of his clients, and also providing them with aggressive representation throughout every phase of the criminal process. Attorney Donovan frequently represents young offenders charged with minor and serious crimes and his thorough knowledge of the New Hampshire criminal justice system has allowed a vast majority of these clients to avoid a criminal conviction that would impede future employment and eductional opportunities.

Patrick Donovan is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association, the New Hampshire Association of Trial Attorneys, and the Salem Bar Association.

Attorney Donovan grew up and was educated in New Hampshire. Aside from his professional interests, Attorney Donovan serves on several charitable boards, including the Board of Directors for the Greater Salem Boys and Girls Club and the St. Joseph's Regional School Board.
