John Kunes, Member of The Law Office of John C. Kunes, P.C.

I think I'm a little different than the typical Chicago bankruptcy lawyer, and that could be a good thing for you if you become my client.  One thing you should know is that I run a solo law practice.  When you hire me, you get me.  I handle your case from the initial interview through the discharge.  I went to law school with a plan to open my own solo practice because I wanted to help people on personal level.  That’s one of the reasons why I wasn’t satisfied with my prior career as a business systems programmer/analyst – I didn’t feel like my work really mattered to anyone on a personal level.

Actually, information technology was my second career.  I was a professional musician for most of the ’90s (so, as you can imagine, I can relate to the feelings that come with having more bills than income).  I still play guitar almost every day to relax and unwind.

In 2005, I decided to take the leap and change careers one last time to a profession where the work I did would make a difference to people on an individual basis.  I enrolled at Chicago-Kent College of Law, where I completed certificate programs in Labor and Employment Law, and Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.  I took extra classes over summer breaks to graduate a semester early and passed the Illinois bar exam in February of 2009.  I was sworn in on May 7th and opened my office on May 8th.

I’m also admitted to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and I’m a member of the federal trial bar.  I belong to the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers, as well as the American, Illinois, and Chicago Bar Associations.

I live in Chicago (in Lakeview) with my wife and daughter and I’m proud to provide legal services in the community in which I live.
