Ms. Ibsen was a Deputy District Attorney in Orange County, California for six years. Orange County (population over 3 million) is the second most populous county in California and fifth most populated in the United States. Its population is racially diverse with a broad range of household income, industry, and crime. While a DDA for Orange County, Ms. Ibsen’s caselaod steadily progressed to include all types of criminal cases from misdemeanor petty thefts and driving while impaired to serious and violent felonies. Her casework included dozens of criminal jury trials and all type of evidentiary hearings, including motion to suppress evidence, felony preliminary hearings, search warrant motions, and Miranda violations. She wrote and argued a variety of misdemeanor and felony appeals and was effective in settling thousands of cases prior to trial. During her career as a DDA, she earned a reputation as a just but tough trial prosecutor among judges and defense attorneys respectively, and achieved a high success rate of bringing jury trials to a favorable verdict for the prosecution. Since leaving the District Attorney Office in 2006 to relocate to the Carolinas, Carilyn is using the invaluable tools she gained as a prosecutor to develop a thriving criminal defense practice. With Carilyn’s criminal law experience as a Deputy District Attorney, she is able to distinguish herself as a highly skilled advocate and understands both the defense attorney and the prosecution perspective. Few criminal defense attorneys equal Ms. Ibsen’s breadth and depth of experience. As a former prosecutor, her skilled insight of the prosecution combines advantageously with her recognized abilities of a defense attorney to communicate your case to the court most positively. She is an expert at personalizing you and your case, distinguishing the issues so that they can be seen most appropriately, separating your case from hundreds of others that appear before the court.
