Matthew A. Goldberg, Member of Kell, Alterman & Runstein LLP
Matt Goldberg
Since Matt Goldberg
first started practicing bankruptcy and debtor-creditor law, he has
witnessed two of the biggest developments in bankruptcy history-the
major revision to the Bankruptcy Code passed in 2005 and the onslaught
of bankruptcies related to the so-called worldwide economic meltdown.
"I've been fortunate to practice during a very exciting period in
bankruptcy-law history," Matt says. "The range of novel and interesting
issues that have arisen when dealing with my clients has been
staggering." Before Matt began practicing, he externed for the
Honorable Elizabeth J. Perris, Chief Judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy
Court for the District of Oregon.
Matt has significant experience representing trustees,
creditors and debtors in a broad spectrum of bankruptcy matters,
including complex litigation in bankruptcy court. Matt's clients also
benefit from his litigation experience outside of the bankruptcy
context, where he regularly represents clients ranging from Fortune 500
and other large companies to smaller businesses and individuals. Matt
has litigated issues related to, among other areas, real estate,
intellectual property, commercial and contract law, professional
liability, noncompetition, nonsolicitation and confidentiality
agreements, and disputes regarding business entities-their formation,
dissolution and the respective rights of the various parties in
interest.
Matt's practice is dynamic and fast-paced-which, his
co-workers can attest- is why his wireless headset is almost always
hanging around his neck-he just never gets the chance to put it back in
the charger. Matt's clients also appreciate, however, his
thoughtfulness and analytical ability, whether it's articulating a
particularly nuanced legal argument or planning the most effective
strategy for handling a given matter to best achieve the client's
desired objectives-business-wise as well as legally.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Matt, who hails
originally from New York, spent 5 years doing business and strategic
development for numerous first-generation Internet companies,
experience that has been very valuable to Matt's clients in the
technology and media industries. In New York, Matt also worked as a
writer and editor, his work having appeared in a variety of nationally
distributed newspapers and magazines. It comes as no surprise, then,
that Matt frequently writes on various legal topics, including
contributions to bar publications and treatises as well as the American
Bar Association's Litigation News, where he is an associate editor and
member of the editorial board. Matt is also a regular speaker at CLEs
and other legal seminars.
When Matt isn't working, he enjoys painting and
drawing, and spending time with his wife and two young daughters at
their home in Lake Oswego.
