Mr. Courtman is a civil and criminal litigation attorney with significant experience providing a full spectrum of legal services to his clients. He advises clients on a wide variety of matters, including international corporate transactions, complex multi-million-dollar government contracts, internal affairs investigations, criminal defense, corporate transactions, regulatory compliance, and federal civil rights litigation. His clients include government contractors, international corporations, business and financial organizations, as well as individuals and small business owners.

Mr. Courtman also proudly represents law enforcement and correctional officers in matters related to their employment, including officer-involved critical incidents and internal affairs investigations, and currently serves as contract counsel for the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, Virginia Division.

From representing individuals and organizations in state and federal court, to conducting discovery in complex cases, to drafting appellate and trial briefs and motions in a variety of matters, Mr. Courtman is a dynamic advocate, creative problem solver, and reliable legal counselor, capable of successfully resolving a diverse range of legal challenges

Mr. Courtman’s federal practice includes export compliance and export control (including ITAR and EAR); civil rights litigation, including Title VII, EEOC, and ADA claims; 42 U.S.C. § 1983 defense; and general civil litigation in federal court and federal administrative hearings.

Mr. Courtman’s state court practice includes family law (divorce, child support, custody and visitation), criminal defense, and general civil litigation in state court and state administrative hearings.

Representative Experience

    * Represents corporate counsel in all aspects of export compliance.

    * Represents clients in criminal defense, family law, and traffic cases.

    * Represents clients in labor and employment and civil rights litigation (Title VII, ADA, and EEOC matters).

    * Served as in-house counsel for the Fraternal Order of Police in Jacksonville, Florida, where he provided on-scene, in the field legal services to officers involved in critical incidents.

    * Defended police officers sued in state and federal court under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.

    * Trail and appellate representation in state and federal court, and before administrative hearings.
