I was born in Oakland Naval Hospital.  My father, a “Mustang” (LDO) Lieutenant in the US Navy, moved several times in my youth to San Juan, Puerto Rico; Dahlgren, Virginia; Panama Canal Zone, and then to Norfolk, Virginia.  My mother was a home maker who later took up golf and was so good, she was offer a chance to tour on the LPGA.  She turned it down to be a stay-at-home mother.  After raising the family she went in accounting and rose to become the head bookkeeper of the Columbian Peanut Company in Norfolk, VA.

I went from 2nd grade to graduating from Norview High School in Norfolk and then attended the US Naval Academy.  I served twenty years in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.  While serving, I obtained a MS from the University of West Florida and a MBA from Bryant College.  My most interesting tour was a year in on the United Nations Command in Seoul. Korea.  I worked at Panmunjom, Korea, where my office was physically in North Korea.

Since retirement, I had several jobs in ship design, ship repair, computer engineering and oceanography.  Of those, the job with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute was the most unique.  I was in charge of the Alvin submersible.

I then began attending Regent Law School in 1998 in their new part-time program.  I graduated in May, 2002, and passed the Virginia Bar in July.  I worked with a firm for 8 months and then started my solo practice in June, 2003.  During this time, my mother developed Alzheimer's and that event directed me to Elder Law as a practice.

It is this unique job experience, coupled with my education, which I bring to my practice.  I have had other careers and understand hiring and firing of employees, budgeting, business planning, starting a business and what happens when you don’t make plans.  I also understand the grief and concern you may have with a family member in failing health or a aging problem.  Planning fir life's event should include using your lawyer to help you in making career or family choices.
