H1B Extension

An H1B extension is lengthening the duration for which an individual has status to work in the United States. An H1B visa allows individuals within a "specialty occupation" to make a valuable contribution to the economy. This short term visa type is usually issued for a period of three years or less but can be extended. An extension may be granted if an individual can prove that there is continuous work for them and their company is willing to continue sponsoring this temporary work type of visa. Once the time period is drawing near for an H1B visa, it is required that they file for an extension. An extension may be granted or may be denied depending on the specific case of the individual.

Fast Facts

  • There are a maximum of 65,000 H1B visas issued each and every year.
  • An H1B visa is issued to individuals that have no less than a bachelor's degree as a minimum requirement.
