Employer Discrimination

Although protections against discrimination in the workplace have been on the books for years, examples of employer discrimination still abound. In early 2009, a former employee of Abercrombie and Fitch sued her previous employer citing discrimination. The employee, Riam Deem, has a prosthetic arm. Deem contended that when she was initially hired by the retailer Abercrombie and Fitch, she was told that she could wear a cardigan to cover the connection between her arm and the prosthetic limb. Deem stated that she was later told that she was not in adherence with the company's employee appearance policy and was forced to work in the stockroom in the back of the store.
