EEOC Sexual Harassment Cases

Sexual harassment, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, involves a form of sexual discrimination in violation Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Any employer with 15 or more employees, whether local, state, or federal governments, as well as other labor organizations and employment agencies, must abide by Title VII. Sexual harassment includes any type of unwelcome behavior of a sexual nature with the implication of having an effect on the person's employment status, promotion, or better treatment in accordance to whether they respond in a positive way. Sexual approaches include verbalizing a repetition of degrading, unpleasant, or sexist remarks, along with physical feeling, groping, or touching. The harasser may be either man or woman and the victim does not have to be of the opposite sex. The victim does not have to be the individual harassed, but can include anyone affected by the offensive nature of the behavior.
