Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights Movement was an international political movement to secure equality for all persons, regardless of race, nationality, disability, age, religion, or gender. The Civil Rights movement is generally said to have occurred between 1950 and 1980, and was often accompanied by civil unrest that in some cases turned radical. Countries have had various degrees of success in their own civil rights movements, but the United States can be said to have put laws in place to protect the freedoms of most classes of people by the late 20th century. Some would disagree that anti-discrimination rights for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) persons are not universal in this country, but others would disagree that these are not intrinsic civil rights, but based on preference. Nevertheless, while civil rights laws are thorough, they do not always translate into cultural conformity. There are many claims and court cases that continue to fill enforcement agencies confirming these rights to all Americans.
