Track Sexual Offenders, Protect Privacy through Facebook Apps
Facebook is taking over the social media world. As you dig deeper, you’ll find that Facebook is more than just a tool to post photos, share updates or play games like Farmville and Mafia Wars. With Facebook applications (commonly referred to as “apps”) and group pages that track sexual offenders, protect your online privacy, provide amber alerts or product recalls, and more, Facebook has become a one-stop resource to keep you and your family safe.
Could Jaycee Dugard have been found sooner?
Recently, we were shocked by the realization that Jaycee Lee Dugard was held captive for 18 years by a registered sex offender in Antioch, CA. With so many resources and websites available to help us stay informed, why didn’t the accused Phillip Garrido’s neighbors and business associates know he was a registered sex offender and contact authorities sooner?
Facebook claims to service over 300 million active users. In addition, Facebook has an app called P.O.M. Offender Locator that tracks sexual offenders. Even if Garrido’s associates & neighbors failed to login to offender-locater sites such as Megan’s Law and Family Watch Dog, it could be assumed at least one was a Facebook user? And if at least one had access to the P.O.M. Offender Locator through Facebook, could Jaycee have been found sooner?
Facebook Apps for Parents - More than Mafia Wars or Farmville
There are literally hundreds of apps on Facebook that arm us with the information needed to make informed decisions relating to ourselves and our families.
