Minimum wage in New York State can vary depending on such factors ad job type and amount of tips, if any. Employers must post minimum wage law guidelines in the workplace. Overtime in New York State is provided for anything over 40 hours in one payroll week. Certain jobs, such as salaried positions are exempt from overtime. An employer may require employees to work longer than an 8 hour shift without overtime. Overtime is based on total hours worked in a week not per day.
