Minors seeking employment in New Mexico presents a unique set of issues. A person must be at least 14 before being employed and must obtain a work permit. Any employer hiring a minor must retain a copy of the certificate for the duration of employment. Minors are prohibited from working in a number of jobs that may be considered hazardous and are also limited in the number of hours they can work. Minors working in New Mexico are not guaranteed the state minimum wage.
