Divorce in Washington

The Washington divorce rate is 4.6 per 1000 people. This is considerably higher than the national average of 3.6. Washington law requires a party to be a resident of the state, a member of the armed forces stationed in the state, or married to a resident of the state or armed forces member stationed in the state. Also an initial petition for the dissolution of marriage must be filed. In the state of Washington the only grounds for divorce are “Irretrievable Breakdown of the Marriage”. Washington is one of the few states where an uncontested divorce may be obtained over the internet.
