Divorce in Maryland

In Maryland the divorce rate is 3.4, just below the national average of 3.6 per 1000 people. There are two types of divorce in Maryland, absolute and limited. A limited divorce allows for temporary decisions on custody, alimony, etc to be discharged by the courts should the couple decides to go back to being legally married. An absolute divorce is a termination of the marriage when no reconciliation is possible. In Maryland it is possible for a one year mutually agreed upon separation or a two year separation where there is no mutual agreement. After two years if there is no reconciliation a complaint for divorce may be filed.
