Consumer Alert - Vioxx
Drug recalls often occur due to a lack of sufficient long-term studies and research on a particular pharmaceutical. The ugly side of the pharmaceutical industry rears its head when drugs and other pharmaceuticals once thought helpful are found to have debilitating side effects that may result in death.
Vioxx (rofecoxib) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical manufactured by Merck & Co., Inc. Vioxx has been linked to causing heart attacks and other heart defects on a majority of its users. Vioxx is suspected to have caused approximately 27,000 heart attacks by prescribed users of the drug.
Although Merck, the manufacturer of Vioxx, has pulled the drug from the market, there are still those who have not come out and spoken against the sheer hubris of Merck & Co., Inc. Any company horrible enough to manufacture a drug and put it out on the pharmaceutical market for the sake of a profit needs to be spoken out against in either class action lawsuits or other kinds of litigation.
Two of the more popular pharmaceuticals related to Vioxx are Celebrex (celecoxib) and Bextra (valdecoxib). Both of these drugs are under investigation for possible debilitating side effects.
